Questions, answered
Everything parents and students ask before getting started with Xametric.
Getting started
What is Xametric?
Xametric is an academic preparation platform for students in New Zealand and Australia. It provides exam-style courses with clear worked solutions, designed for students preparing for ICAS, academic competitions and scholarship-style assessments.
Who is Xametric for?
Xametric is built for ambitious students roughly aged 10 to 17, and the parents supporting them. It suits students preparing for ICAS, those doing extension work beyond the classroom, and anyone building stronger reasoning and problem-solving skills.
How do I get started?
Create a free account to access the free preview, explore sample questions and worked solutions, then choose the course that matches the subject and level you want to prepare for.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Xametric runs entirely in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone — there is nothing to download or install.
ICAS and the assessments
What is ICAS?
ICAS is a well-known series of academic assessments sat by students across several subjects, including English, Mathematics and Science. Xametric helps students prepare for ICAS-style assessments with realistic practice questions.
Which subjects does Xametric cover?
Xametric covers English, Mathematics and Science, with courses across multiple year levels so students can practise at the level that matches the assessment they are preparing for.
What year level should I choose?
Each course corresponds to a paper level. Australian and New Zealand year levels for the same paper differ by one year — so the year level shown for each course reflects the region you are in. When choosing a course, check the year level shown to make sure it matches your student.
Can Xametric help with selective-entry or scholarship exams?
Yes. While the courses are ICAS-style, the reasoning and problem-solving skills they build also support preparation for selective-entry tests, scholarship-style assessments and academic competitions.
Are you affiliated with ICAS?
No. Xametric is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by ICAS, Janison or UNSW Global (ICAS is their trademark). Xametric provides original, ICAS-style practice.
What year levels is Xametric for?
Papers E–I, roughly Years 7–11 in Australia; New Zealand is one year higher.
Plans and pricing
How much does Xametric cost?
Xametric offers three plans: a single-course plan, a Year Level plan covering all three subjects for one year level, and an All-Access plan covering every course. Current pricing is shown on the pricing page in your local currency.
Are the plans a subscription or a one-off payment?
All Xametric plans are monthly subscriptions, billed on a recurring basis.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.
What happens when my subscription ends?
When a subscription ends, access to the paid courses pauses. Your account remains, and you can resubscribe at any time.
Can I switch or upgrade my plan?
Yes. You can move between plans as your preparation needs change — for example, upgrading to All-Access as more assessments approach.
Why is it $5?
Single courses start at $5 AUD because it’s software, not print — once a course exists, more students can practise at no extra cost.
Using Xametric
What is included in a course?
Each course contains a large set of exam-style questions, every one with a clear worked solution that shows how to approach the problem — not just the final answer.
Do the worked solutions teach, or just give the answer?
They teach. Each worked solution explains the approach behind the question — the concept it tests, the steps to the answer, and a strategy tip pointing out how to handle similar questions or where students often slip up. The goal is for a student to come away able to solve the next question on their own.
What is the free preview?
The free preview lets you and your student try sample questions and worked solutions before subscribing, so you can judge the quality of the practice first. It is available once you create a free account.
How should my child use Xametric?
Xametric works best as a steady, regular practice routine: choosing a course, working through questions, and reviewing the worked solutions to understand any mistakes. Consistent practice over time builds both skill and confidence.
How is Xametric different from practice books or past papers?
A paper is a one-off you sit once and mark yourself. Xametric is a full course where every question has a worked solution and a strategy tip — so students learn the method, not just whether they were right — plus timed mock exams, progress tracking and a Revisit set, practised until mastered.
How does progress tracking work?
With a subscription, each course shows accuracy by topic and difficulty, coverage, and recent mock scores, building as your student practises.
Can students repeat questions?
Yes — every wrong answer is saved to Revisit to attempt again until it’s right.
How do timed mock exams work?
Each course includes timed mock exams; the timer runs automatically and submits when time is up, then you get an indicative band and a full worked-solution review. (Indicative only — not an official ICAS result.)
